WIRE SAW

Our diamond wire saw is one of the first steps in processing sandstone brought in from our quarries. Equipped with a diamond-button cutting cable and water-cooled during operation, it can cut stone up to approximately 12 feet by 5 feet. The wire saw is used to break down massive quarry boulders into manageable, pallet-sized sections and to cut oversized slabs greater than 26 inches wide for specialty and custom projects.

36" DIAMOND SLAB SAW

This large, water-cooled diamond saw can cut sandstone up to approximately 15 inches thick by 48 inches wide. It is one of our primary production saws, used to create slabs and make the major cuts required for products such as bookends, spheres, sculptures, and other specialty pieces.

24" DIAMOND SLAB SAW

Our water-cooled 24-inch diamond slab saw can accommodate cuts up to approximately 9 inches by 72 inches. It is used to produce slabs and reduce larger pieces of sandstone into the sizes needed for bookends, spheres, sculptures, and other finished products.

OVERHEAD GRINDER / POLISHER

Our water-cooled overhead grinder and polisher uses diamond and carbide grinding heads to remove saw marks and create a smooth, finished surface. This process is especially important for products where the natural patterns within the sandstone are meant to be prominently displayed, including decorative slabs, bookends, and custom pieces.

DIAMOND BLADE TRIM SAWS

Our water-cooled diamond trim saws handle many of the precision and finishing cuts throughout our production process. These saws allow us to accurately size and shape products such as coasters, bookends, slabs, spheres, sculptures, and other specialty items before they move on to the next stage of production.

DIAMOND CORE DRILL

The water-cooled diamond core drill allows us to precisely cut circular openings and cores from the sandstone. It is used in the production of several Western Hills products, including coasters, candle holders, and other specialty pieces.

DIAMOND CORE SPHERE MACHINE

Creating our sandstone spheres requires a combination of specialized equipment and hands-on craftsmanship. During the final shaping process, each sphere is individually turned and rotated by hand against a diamond core cup until its rounded shape is complete. The machine can produce sandstone spheres ranging from approximately 2 to 10 inches in diameter, with the natural patterns of the stone making every finished sphere completely unique.

ABRASIVE SANDBLASTING

Sandblasting allows us to shape and finish sandstone in ways that cannot be accomplished with saws alone. Using pressurized air and abrasive grit, our craftsmen carefully remove material to form and refine products such as sandstone sculptures, bookends, and other dimensional pieces. This process plays an important role in creating many of the distinctive shapes found throughout the Western Hills product line.
